FAQ

What makes a tent “waterproof,” and what does the “mm” rating stand for?

For Pakicetus tents, waterproof means all outer fabrics use high-quality polyurethane coatings, and all seams are fully sealed right out of the package. The “mm” means millimeters and measures how well a coating resists water. For example, a 1500mm rating means the fabric can hold a 1500mm column of water for over a minute before any water seeps through. This level works well even in heavy, windy rainstorms.

Do I need an account to buy something?

Yes, and it’s designed to make your shopping easier. Creating or using a Pakicetus account during checkout helps you:

  • Track your order and delivery status
  • Change or cancel your order if needed
  • Use past orders to qualify for loyalty discounts

What do “D” and “T” mean on tent fabrics?

  • D = Denier: Measures fiber thickness. Lower numbers = lighter, finer threads; higher numbers = heavier, tougher threads.
  • T = Thread Count: How many warp and weft threads per square inch. Lower = looser weave; higher = tighter weave.Together, they show the fabric’s strength, weight, and feel.

What’s the best way to clean my tent?

You only need to clean your tent if it smells bad or is very dirty.

  • Light dirt: Rinse with a regular garden hose.
  • Heavy dirt: Set up the tent, hand-wash with warm water, a soft sponge, and mild non-detergent soap.
  • Do NOT use dish soap, detergent, bleach, pre-soakers, or stain removers.
  • Rinse very well.
  • Dry by pitching the tent or hanging it; never dry-clean, machine-wash, or machine-dry—these can strip waterproof coatings.

How do I stop mildew from growing?

Never store a wet tent. Even 24 hours in warm, damp conditions can start mildew. Mildew ruins waterproof coatings and leaves permanent stains not covered by warranty.Always make sure your tent is 100% dry before storing. Hang it outdoors or lay it loose indoors for a few days, flipping it inside out to dry every part. Do not machine-dry.

How should I store my tent long-term?

  • Never pack or store a wet, damp, or dirty tent. Long moisture exposure breaks down waterproof layers and causes mildew.
  • Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Store it loose in a breathable cotton or mesh bag—not the tight stuff sack. An old pillowcase works great.
  • Mildew and moisture damage are not covered under warranty.

How long will my order take to arrive?

Delivery time depends on the shipping method you choose and your location.

  • Free shipping: 10–25 business days.
  • Faster options may be available at checkout.Weather, holidays, busy shipping times, or incorrect billing info can cause delays.

Can I repair small leaks or worn waterproofing myself?

Yes. For small seam leaks, use a seam sealer made for tents. For faded or worn coatings, use a spray-on waterproof treatment designed for outdoor fabric. Always clean and fully dry the area first.

Why is my tent getting condensation inside?

Condensation is normal, not a leak. It happens when warm, moist air touches cool fabric. Reduce it by opening vents, keeping the rainfly slightly loose for airflow, and avoiding cooking or breathing heavily inside the tent.
